AusAID launched its Disability Action Plan 2011-14 on 3 December 2011, International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD).

The Plan demonstrates AusAID's intention to provide a working environment that is accessible for all, and adds to the diversity of backgrounds, experience and skills within the agency through improving the number and rate of retention of staff with disability in the agency. It also supports AusAID's 'Development for All' strategy.

Through this Plan, AusAID's aims to increase the proportion of staff with disability and provide support and opportunities to all staff members.
This includes creating an environment where staff are comfortable disclosing their disability and confident that they will receive support to operate at a high level in the workplace.

There are three key areas for action to achieve this objective:
1. recruitment and employment
2. learning and development
3. corporate support.
