Increasing global concern over the use of chemicals in agriculture is behind a growing trend of using organic methods of agricultural production.

While adoption of organic practices doubled from 1990 to1995 it is believed this rate of adoption would increase if there was a greater level of understanding achieved throughout the agricultural community about the factors involved in organic farming. But the absence of a clear understanding of the issues involved with organic farming and the opportunities available continue to impede adoption of these methods by conventional producers.
