East Timor’s agricultural sector is still very much based on subsistence production. The report sheds light on the historical factors related to agricultural production in East Timor, and explores avenues for agribusiness based on rural development partnerships.

The report analyses the social organisation features in rural Timor-Leste. Based on field visits, this Justice for the Poor (J4P) briefing note looks at the rural economy of Timor-Leste and considers approaches that could help promote productive and equitable relationships between communities and other rural development partners and contribute to mutually beneficial rural development outcomes.

The document is of interest to all those assisting East Timor in agriculture development and agribusiness in particular.
