In 2000 the UN Security Council agreed on Resolution 1325 which aimed to address the impact of war on women, and increase their role in conflict resolution and sustainable peace. This 2010 report of the UN Secretary General provides 26 indicators by which member states and independent agencies can monitor progress on Resolution 1325.

The proposed 26 indicators are divided between four of the UN’s five system-wide thematic areas, namely prevention, participation, protection and relief and recovery. They were culled from over more than 2,500 indicators collected and suggested during extensive international consultations.  For each thematic area, the indicators are presented in the same hierarchy as found in logframes (impact, outcome and output levels).  Each indicator is rated in terms of the feasibility of collecting the data and what more needs to be done to increase feasibility.  Each indicator has considerations or criteria to be taken into account when collecting and analyzing the data.
