Leadership and managing Human Resources Training in Bali

Date: 7 - 11 May 2012
Organisation: MDF Pacific-Indonesia
Location: Sanur, Bali, Indonesia

Good leadership, as opposed to operational management, is increasingly viewed as one of the critical components in the development of organisations and society. This is also why the topic of leadership and management is subject to more and more interest from both development sector organisations as well private businesses. In this course we will focus on leadership in organisations; and in particular HRM approaches. Successful managers are able to recognise and mobilise the talents of the people they work with. Your ability to lead and inspire individuals and teams is a crucial factor in reaching the desired personal and organisational goals.

Participants
This course is specifically meant for leaders and managers in middle and higher level management positions, HR-managers, team leaders that are responsible for directing, guiding and supervising a team of professionals. You are motivated to improve your leadership and management style in order to increase the performance of your team.

Outcome Mapping and Most Significant Change Training

Date: 8 - 11 May 2012
Organisation: MDF Pacific-Indonesia
Location: Sanur, Bali, Indonesia

Manage complexity through learning, appreciation and flexibility

Development processes are multi-dimensional by nature. To tackle this, Outcome Mapping (OM) offers a non-linear, vision-driven approach with a focus on changes of behaviours, relationships and actions of people and organisations. OM appreciates the complexity of development interventions and understands that behaviour of people is key   to development success. MSC is a monitoring and evaluation tool that accepts that changes cannot always be foreseen, and hence the measurement thereof cannot always be planned.

OM and Most Significant Change (MSC) are typical Results-Based Management approaches which can be used either as stand-alone tools, or in combination with more traditional tools to improve their appropriateness.

Participants
Programme coordinators/managers in a (inter)national or inter-governmental development organisation, consultants or government officials who are looking for new planning, M&E concepts, approaches and tools that are adapted to better suit the complex environments in which development work takes place.

Monitoring and Evaluation Training in Bali

Date: 6 - 8 June 2012
Organisation: MDF Pacific-Indonesia
Location: Sanur, Bali, Indonesia

Keeping track of the progress of a project or programme is key in determining the success and relevance of development interventions. The set-up of practical and user-friendly monitoring systems will greatly assist efficient project management. The system should be based on identifying real information needs of an organisation and systematically collect and use data. But how to go about it?

For who? Professionals who are involved in formulating, managing or monitoring interventions and/ or prepare, supervise or participate in evaluations.these can be desk officers, programme managers, task managers for a national or local government, for an international donor agency or for an NGO.

Course Objective
This course will give you practical knowledge and skills how to monitor and evaluate projects, programmes and organisations. You will learn how to ask and answer common M&E questions, such as:
1. Which information do we really need in order to understand our achievements on outputs, outcomes and impacts?
2. Who determines, collects analyses and processes the data to obtain this information, when and how?
3. How to efficiently integrate this into my organisational processes and management systems?

Impact Evaluation Short Course

Date: 9 - 20 June 2012
Organisation: University of East Anglia

Given the need for policymakers, programme implementing and funding organisations to justify their choice of social and economic interventions, it has become increasingly important to use 'evidence-based' criteria to decide what kind of programmes work, how, for whom, in what circumstances, and at what cost. Much evidence is quantitative in nature, and this 2 week course aims to equip those working in governments, funding agencies, research and non-government organisations to understand, critique and make effective use of such evidence.

The focus of this year’s International Day will be Indigenous designs: celebrating stories and cultures, crafting our own future.
