Our approach

In using the Gateway site, we make a few commitments to you and provide some guidelines, too. This way, we hope we're giving you the certainty to know what to expect, but also the assurance and confidence in the quality, security and privacy of what you see on the site.

We take pride in a quick turn-around for you - within a week, often within 2-3 days if not less, to respond to your queries whether that's job postings, people or organisation profile updates, or suggested sector or event resources. Plus we always send you a mini email confirmation when we've published your content on the site. It's about being transparent and providing you feedback.

As a website, or a portal to be exact, we try not to replicate documents and papers that are elsewhere on the world wide web (online). Instead, we receive your and our Content Partners' suggestions on useful online content (and do plenty of sourcing ourselves, too), and provide the links for you to get there yourself. As the Head of BBC World Service recently said (2011), 'users are in control' online - so, when you send us info, our job is to verify it, seek the context for it, and publish it responsibly.

Editorial & Checklist

The Gateway functions as a true portal (ie. it provides links to external websites and resources, and not as a repository or host for user-submitted documents). The Gateway uses a 'deferred publishing' and 'content moderation' approach, so that content suggested by users is reviewed/moderated according to editorial checklist (below) prior to acceptance on the site, and are periodically checked.

Resources (e.g. documents, reports, case studies) linked from the ADG portal must be available online (as a web page or downloadable PDF format file on an organisation's website), in full text, and available free of charge to a public audience. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view PDF files (see here>> ). For users with a disability, there are a number of provisions across the site e.g. alt text/alt tags etc, and designed for use with on-screen readers to help make the site as accessible as possible, and we're also seeking to improve on this. One option is also to view Adobe's screen-reader (see here>> ).

When submitting content, please review it against this Checklist. We review your content against this Checklist prior to acceptance on the site:

1.    Is the resource relevant to aid and development in the Asia Pacific region?

2.    Is the resource in any way discriminatory of race, gender, religious, cultural or political persuasions? If so, the content will not be published.

3.    Does it address any of the current sectors of the ADG?
4.    Is it practical information, written in plain English?
5.    Is the resource available online in full text, free of charge?
6.    Is the resource publicly available? If not, have you obtained permission from the owner of the content to submit this resource? Is it available or cleared for public distribution.
7.    Is it one of the following types of resources?
       - summaries of "lessons learned" and practical project information
       - toolkits, manuals and practical user guides
       - case studies and project reports
       - research reports, working papers, discussion papers, conference papers
       - policy briefings and guidelines, development related statistics, fact sheets
8.    Does the content have longevity (ie. is it valid, relevant and applicable in the near future)?
9.    Is the suggested resource less than 2MB in file size?
10.  Is the resource in a downloadable file, i.e. in PDF format?
