Q&A Session: PIFS Secretary General, Tuiloma Neroni Slade: week of 9 August 2010
Thank you for posting your question to this popular Q&A session with Secretary General Slade. We have done our best to facilitate responses to as many of your questions as possible in the time we've had and during such a busy time with the Forum Leaders Meeting! If we couldn't field your question this time, we'd like to hear from you next time - please contact us to let us know what you would like to see covered in future Q&As.
From 3-6 August 2010, the 41st Pacific Islands Forum was held in Port Vila, Vanuatu, during which Forum Leaders reviewed the progress of the Cairns Compact on Strengthening Development Coordination. Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), Tuiloma Neroni Slade, has kindly answered questions on the Cairns Compact.
Secretary General Tuiloma Neroni Slade of Samoa leads the Secretariat of the Pacific Islands Forum, a political grouping of 16 independent and self-governing states. The Forum Secretariat has primary responsibility for implementing the Cairns Compact, which is a response to Forum Leaders' concerns that the Pacific region remains off-track to achieve the MDGs by 2015. Tuiloma Neroni Slade was elected to the position of Secretary General for three years. Prior to this, he was elected to the International Criminal Court and held an extensive diplomatic career, including as Samoan Ambassador to the United Nations.

Q&A Session: Development Practice/Effectiveness Specialist – Mr Tim Costello AO: week of 15 February 2010
Mr. Tim Costello AO, CEO of World Vision Australia, answered your questions on aid effectiveness and social justice issues from 15 - 19 February 2010.
He is one of Australia’s leading voices on these issues and is instrumental in keeping issues surrounding global poverty on the national agenda since he joined World Vision Australia in 2004. Learn from his experience including as a leading figure of the Make Poverty History campaign, as Chair of an Australian Government 2020 Summit committee on Strengthening Communities, and in playing a key role in bringing together The Business for Millennium Development (B4MD) alliance in 2006 to consider the question “How can corporate Australia do more to address global poverty?”
This Discussion Forum is very timely. With the upcoming 5 year anniversary of the Paris Declaration (2 March 2010), and World Day of Social Justice (20 February 2010), it is a unique chance to ask questions about what has worked to date and what we can – or should – aspire to going forward. Also hear Tim Costello speak as a panellist of the upcoming One Just World event in Melbourne on 16 February 2010, on the topic of “What responsibilities do Australians owe the global poor?”
