Q&A with Gender Equality Specialist – Dr Julia Newton-Howes: week of 15 March 2010
From 15 - 19 March 2010 Dr Julia Newton-Howes, CEO of CARE Australia will answer your questions on gender equality and development.
Dr Julia Newton-Howes became CEO of CARE Australia in October 2007. CARE Australia has a focus on women, because supporting women and girls is one of the most effective ways to create sustainable outcomes in poor communities. She has significant experience with policies, approaches and practical examples of gender equality through her work with CARE Australia, AusAID, World Bank and other agencies.
Prior to her role with CARE, she was an Assistant Director General of AusAID, responsible for multilateral aid to Africa and negotiating Australia's contributions to the World Bank and Asian Development Bank. For two years, Dr Newton-Howes was an adviser to Australia's Executive Director to the World Bank, based in Washinton DC. She has also managed Australia's aid relations with the United Nations, the Commonwealth, the OECD Development Assistance Committee and non-government organisations.
This Discussion Forum is very timely, with International Women's Day on 8 March 2010. It is a unique opportunity to have your questions answered. Find out if there are any new policies and/or approaches to gender development, what the key principles for promoting gender equality are, and what has worked well and what hasn't. Learn from Dr Julia Newton-Howes’ experience working with large donor agencies, NGOs and the private sector.

This Discussion Forum is very timely. With the upcoming 5 year anniversary of the Paris Declaration (2 March 2010), and World Day of Social Justice (20 February 2010), it is a unique chance to ask questions about what has worked to date and what we can – or should – aspire to going forward.
