Appropriate technologies
Choosing an appropriate technology (pdf 83kb)
Selecting the right technology from a range of options is key to successful operation. Technologies are unlikely to be sustainable if inappropriate choices are made at the outset. The difficulty of making this choice is often underestimated.
This technical brief guides practitioners on how to select the most appropriate options, using the example of a water-treatment facility. The process used can be applied to the selection of single technology, or a strategy for a whole area. It can be used both decision makers and other stakeholders, and applied to various types of water and sanitation technologies.
