There are various ways for people to seek out appropriate overseas positions.

Seeking employment with one of the main Australian NGOs

There are over a 100 Australian overseas NGOs, the most well-known being agencies such as the Australian Red Cross, CARE Australia, OXFAM/CAA, MSF Australia, World Vision Australia (WVA). Details of all these (100+) agencies can be found on the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) website.

  Most assignments are for 2 years, although there are limited positions for a lesser period. AVI also offers younger volunteers (ie 18+) shorter team-based opportunities for 8-12 weeks. It also runs a Remote Recruiting Service out of its Darwin office for paid employment with indigenous employers.

• Volunteering for International Development from Australia (VIDA)
  The VIDA program is open to any Australian over the age of 18. Assignments are focused on the Asia Pacific region and can be short term (3-12 months) or long term (18-36 months).
