From 11 - 21 December Kate Collier answered ADG users' questions on adult education and training.
Education, training and capacity building are integral to almost every development assistance activity. Ensuring these are designed and delivered based on sound adult learning principles and approaches can make a critical difference to how effective and sustainable these activities are.

Kate Collier has worked in adult education for the past 25 years. She is based at the University of Technology Sydney but has also acted as an adult education consultant in Australia, Tonga and since 2005 in Indonesia with the Indonesian Tax Office (DGT).
Her particular areas of interest are:
- utilising adult learning principles/ approaches to build the capacity of workers in government organisations
- developing training programs that are delivered as a means of supporting development, and are more relevant to those involved.
Her recent research has focused on the use of peer learning groups to:
- encourage the sustainability of learning gained from training programs and
- to help those participating feel more empowered and in control of their learning.
