Achieving healthy urban futures in the 21st century (pdf 1.5mb)

From conclusions and recommendations (p79) of the paper:

"Providing access to clean drinking water and basic sanitation can be the most effective and sustainable way to benefit the poor while increasing the overall quality of city life, but water and sanitation are generally underfunded in developing countries. However, given that the global benefits of greater disease control, the subsequent socio-economic development, and the entailing peace and security - all of which transcend national borders - there is a need for global funding streams to be brought down to the local level in support of individual cities and communities in the developing countries. History has shown that the gains will bring prosperity and security, as presented in this paper, so the opportunities for positive globalization are clear."
