Microcredit, microfinance or simply access to financial services - what do Pacific people need? (pdf 99kb)
This paper looks at whether the replication of existing microfinance models is appropriate to the Pacific context and whether it meets the needs of people in the Pacific.
It also attempts to clarify the distinction between different types of financial services, models and methods of delivery. For example, the terms microcredit and microfinance are often used interchangeably although they are distinctly different types of financial services. There is also low awareness surrounding the various popular models of microfinance and the contexts which they are designed for.
