What is Microenterprise?
Microenterprise as asset building (pdf 120kb)
This paper outlines the role of assets (human, financial, and social) in the development of microenterprises.
This view expands beyond the current focus on training and loans to include savings services and networks of social capital. Most new ventures depend more on savings than loans and on social networks as these are key business assets that the poor often lack. In this context, the outputs of microenterprise support programs and the intermediate and final outcomes of self-employment can also be seen and measured in terms of asset building.
