Role of governments in microfinance (pdf 176kb)
There is considerable debate surrounding the role of governments in providing credit schemes to assist the poor. This paper explores the debate, and concludes that experienced donors can support governments to develop sound policy frameworks and encourage vibrant and competitive microfinance, rather than directly providing financial services.
