The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

John Dore is a leading regional practitioner and researcher in the area of water and natural resource management. He has worked for over 20 years on water-related issues as a consultant, project manager, researcher and writer in both Australia and Asia.

In Australia, he has worked extensively with government, non-government and industry groups, and has written and published widely on the policy and institutional aspects of numerous environmental issues. Since 2000, John has been based in Thailand, where he has worked for the World Resources Institute, Social Research Institute and IUCN (World Conservation Union), mainly on environmental and water governance issues in China and the Mekong region.

One of John's key areas of interest is environmental governance, in particular where such processes involve multiple stakeholders, sectors and disciplines. He established and continues to lead the Mekong Region Water Governance Network (http://www.mpowernet.org), bringing together a network of change-oriented researchers to address transboundary environmental challenges in the Mekong region.

John is currently Program Manager for the IUCN's (World Conservation Union) Asia Water Program. He is also is currently completing his PhD on environmental governance of transboundary waters in the Mekong region.
