Australian aid: Approaches to peace, conflict and development (pdf 61kb)

This publication provides examples of the approach taken in the Australian aid program to development activities in conflict-afflicted or post-conflict countries.

Since 1980, almost half of the world's least developed countries have suffered a major conflict. Over 90 per cent of wars now take place within states rather than between them. The toll in terms of human suffering, economic dislocation and wasted development opportunities has been enormous.
