Disaster mitigation / Emergency preparedness

Last updated on 23 September 2008

Natural disasters cannot be averted, but their impact and consequences can be reduced by implementing mitigation strategies and minimising the potential impact to areas which are most vulnerable.

This section provides resources outlining preparedness plans and initiatives to develop and maintain the ability to respond to and recover from natural disasters. This includes short term risk models such as early warning systems, and longer term solutions of community education on risk reduction, training and information management.
