Worker's remittance flows in Southeast Asia (Pdf 1.26mb)
This report examines the flow of remittance funds from a regional perspective to understand its trends, as well as to identify policies that can support the contribution of remittances to development outcomes.
The study covers Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines as recipient countries, and Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore as the sources of remittances.
The study looked into a range of issues relevant to donors and development players, including:
- migration trends as well as their social and economic features
- remittance flows; official and estimated figures
- regulatory framework that oversees international worker transfers
- marketplace of remittance flows-channels and competition
- role of financial intermediation
- transnational landscape among remittance senders.
