Road development and poverty reduction: the case of Lao PDR (pdf 389kb)

This research study examines the relationship between access to road networks and poverty reduction.

Authored by an Australian National University professor, this paper uses regression analysis techniques, drawing on macro and micro-economic data for Lao PDR, to study the factors contributing to poverty reduction in the country.

The study concludes that providing rural households with all weather road access could reduce the incidence of poverty by up to 7% of the rural population.
