Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Cross-border transport infrastructure, regional integration and development (pdf 187kb)

This paper reviews the current thinking on the potential economic benefits from cross-border transport infrastructure projects, drawing on case studies from the Mekong and Central Asian regions.

The paper identifies and discusses key issues relating to such cross-border infrastructure projects, including:

- the relationships between infrastructure, trade and economic growth
- distribution of benefits from cross-border projects
- cooperation on institutional and financing issues amongst countries
- challenges arising from differences in geography, economic size, and institutional capacities
