Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Mainstreaming poverty alleviation strategies through sustainable infrastructure development (pdf 1.10mb)

This paper explores the idea of infrastructure programs serving as a means for poverty reduction to communities, through a local resource based approach.  It explores this local resource based approach as one that may include: physical, capital, institutional, or technical local resources.

The paper argues that for this approach to be effective, it should be coupled with a process that gives local communities some ownership of the facilities that have been provided.
