Case studies in secondary education reform (pdf 1.2mb)

Development agencies and organisations have recently shifted their focus from primary, vocational and higher education to enhancing access to and improving the quality of secondary education. In this monograph, a team of IEQ researchers, based at the Institute for International Studies in Education at the University of Pittsburgh (IISE/Pitt), reports on their investigation of what is happening in secondary education around the world.

Presented is a general survey of the types of reforms being planned and implemented at the secondary level in five regions (Sub-Saharan Africa, Arab States, Asia and Pacific Region, Eastern Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean) and then a more in-depth examination of one country from each of those regions (Argentina, Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya, and Romania).
