The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Asia Pacific faith based organisations battle HIV/AIDS (pdf 615kb)

This paper discusses the response of religion to HIV/AIDS in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Cambodia, using the nation's respective religions as a guide.

This paper begins by discussing the role religion can play in responding to HIV/AIDS, including their position as institutions with built-in infrastructures of leadership and Fellowship. It bases its discussion on religions ability to build upon its moral and value-based leadership, trust garnered over generations, and channels of communication and organisation, in order to have a tremendous influence over cultural norms that guide individual and community behaviour and that affect how information about HIV/AIDS.

It then moves on to discuss the Islamic response in Indonesia, the Anglican response in PNG, and the Buddhist response in Cambodia.
