Political leadership
Assessing leadership for confronting the HIV/AIDS epidemic (pdf 589kb)
This report synthesises the POLICY Project's recent work in assessing national political commitment and leadership for confronting HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Viet Nam. The report also includes lessons learned from political commitment in this area. These diverse countries were selected because they represent a "window of opportunity". Strong political commitment and leadership can make a difference in heading off the epidemic before it reaches the magnitude witnessed in other parts of the world. Political commitment and leadership are likely to have the greatest impact on the epidemic while HIV prevalence is still low.
