Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

What drives HIV in Asia?: a summary of trends (277kb)

This summary of trends in sexual and drug taking behaviours is the result of behavioural surveillance surveys collected by a number of countries and states with technical assistance from Family Health International.

The findings are extremely diverse. Some of the findings include:

- Condom use in commercial sex has risen sharply over time within Asia
- 7 out of 10 encounters between sex workers and clients are protected by condoms in some countries
- In other countries consistent condom use in paid sex still lags well below 10 percent
- Risk populations overlap
