Testing
HIV voluntary counselling and testing among youth ages 14 to 21 (927kb)
This paper discusses an exploratory study in Kenya and Uganda that looked at the role of voluntary counselling and testing among youth. The methods and findings are included.Voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) programs have increased the adoption of safe sexual behavior and the use of care and support services among adults. The study looked at whether VCT programs were appropriate for young people by conducting exploratory research to identify opportunities for and barriers to providing VCT for youth.
The first phase of the study, completed in May 2000, indicates that youth would like access to HIV testing and counselling services if the services are confidential and inexpensive and if the results are reported honestly.
