Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Education and national development: priorities, policies, and planning

This publication focuses on the broad role of education in national development in Asia. It emphasises trends, issues, and envisaged problems within education systems and in the relationship between education and the environment. The foremost concerns are the implications for policy making and planning. The publication has five main sections, focusing on:

- Demographic, economic, social, and education patterns
- Relationships between education, economic growth, poverty, and social change
- Changing patterns of control and responsibility for education decisions
- Trends in major policy areas, including governance and management
- Ways to develop more effective international assistance
