AusAID: Baseline study guidelines (pdf 167K)
AusAID activity managers and key stakeholders will benefit most from these guidelines. A baseline study gathers key information early in an activity so that later judgments can be made about the quality and development results achieved of the activity. The guidelines offer advice, resources and a practical checklist to help you plan and implement a baseline study. They are a work-in-progress. Development workers will contribute lessons and experiences to them over time.
It is important to note that the primary focus of these guidelines is on socio-economic baseline studies. These are not a substitute for physical science or environmental baseline studies, though in many Activities a socio-economic baseline study will complement these. It is advisable to refer to all the other relevant AusAID guidelines for your activity.
