Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Coast to Coast Conference 2008

  • Coast to Coast 2008 is Australia's biennial national coastal conference. It will focus debate, discussion and learning across the full range of coastal and marine issues - at the international, national, state, regional and local levels.

    Coast to Coast 2008 offers us all the opportunity to:
    - Consider key coastal challenges and issues from a range of perspectives,
    - Learn about new coastal initiatives and programs that tackle current and emerging issues,
    - Meet, re-connect and network with people with an interest in the coast, including many professionals and specialists

    Take the opportunity to attend Coast to Coast , network with peers and colleagues, and visit the exciting and beautiful Top End - one of the last remaining natural coastal wildernesses in the world - and during the glorious 'dry season'!

Clean Up The World Weekend

  • Now celebrating its 16th year, Clean Up the World is one of the largest community-based environmental campaigns in the world. Held in conjunction with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), an estimated 35 million volunteers from more than 110 countries are now taking part annually.

    In 2008, Clean Up the World, will encourage participants around the globe to start today.. save tomorrow and take action to help reduce the causes of climate change. Activities will include protecting water sources and energy conservation, planting trees, reducing waste, conducting walk to school or work days, and organising environmental education exercises.

    While member activities can be conducted throughout the year, the campaign's flagship event is the Clean Up the World Weekend, 19-21 September 2008. Groups in any city, town or village across the globe can get involved by becoming a Clean Up the World member. Membership is free and renewable annually.

PhD Scholarships for Research in Indonesia - Murdoch University, Australia

  • Location: Indonesia
  • Expressions of interest are sought for two PhD scholarship positions to carry out field research in Indonesia on community, environment and local governance issues.

    The project will focus on case studies of local decision-making on environmental issues in the context of conservation and development programs in different regions of Indonesia. It aims to improve understanding of contemporary community dynamics in a range of cultural and ecological settings, as well as the practical implications of local participation and capacity building interventions for achieving equity and sustainability outcomes.

    The two candidates will be based at Flinders University in Adelaide and Murdoch University in Perth respectively, with location and supervision determined by the focus and site of each student's component of the project.
