Ecosystems
Prioritising research on inland aquatic ecosystems (pdf 2.64mb)
This document outlines the priority areas for additional research into Aquatic ecosystems management.Aquatic ecosystems are defined here in a broad sense to include all riverine, wetland and stored surface waters, natural or artificial, including that portion of coastal rivers which is estuarine. The report includes examples of non-riverine coastal waters and estuarine embayments that are currently being examined in order to assess the effects of freshwater inputs.
The following key themes are addressed through a detailed list of research projects in aquatic ecosystem management including:
1. Water for the environment: water allocation and waterway infrastructure management
2. Ecosystem processes and dynamics
3. Water quality
4. Biodiversity
5. Species and habitat conservation and rehabilitation|
6. Species biology and ecology
7. Whole ecosystem analysis and modeling.
