Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an independent non-profit organization that promotes responsible fishing practices. Its role is to recognize, via a certification program, well-managed fisheries and to harness consumer preference for seafood products bearing the MSC label of approval. It has developed an environmental standard for sustainable and well-managed fisheries. It uses a product label to reward environmentally responsible fishery management and practices, allowing consumers, concerned about over fishing and its environmental and social consequences to choose seafood products which have been independently assessed against the MSC Standard.
