Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Climate change brief: business solutions (pdf 81kb)

The response of business leaders to the problem of climate change is undergoing a major transformation. In addition to acting on their own to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a growing number of businesses are calling for government action to protect the climate.

This article addresses the risk of climate change on businesses, the capturing of opportunities and the role that businesses are playing in promoting stronger climate change policy.

The article concludes by stating that businesses that are taking action to address climate change, both within their companies and in the policy arena, recognize two things: 1) regulation of greenhouse gas emissions is inevitable; and 2) mandatory climate policies, if properly designed, are consistent with sound business planning and good corporate governance.
