This paper aims to help people using on environmental models understand what constitutes a good model, and how to interpret and critically review models, by outlining ten basic steps of good, disciplined model practice.Models of the complex ecological systems are increasingly being used to inform and support natural resource management. Increasingly, models are the information they produce, are also being used people without a strong quantitative or modeling background, to make decisions on natural resource management issues.
