Issues and opportunities for the forest sector in PNG (pdf 1mb)

This paper provides an overview of the status of the forest sector in Papua New Guinea, including risks and opportunities within the sector.

It looks at three issues related to the forest sector:
- The available information on the status and use of forest resources in Papua New Guinea (PNG)
- Possible strategies to make the transition from the current volume-based approach, centering on log exports, towards a value-based industry focusing on the exports of (semi)-processed timber products
- The extent to which the current fiscal regime allows the Government to maximise revenue from the forest sector.
