Market-based environmental policies: what can we learn from US experience & related research? (pdf 330kb)

This paper reviews the experience of using market-based policies as a mechanism for environmental management over the past two decades in the United States.

It looks at the highlights of this experience and their outcomes and draws out lessons for others considering the application of market-based instruments for environmental management.

Policy mechanisms explored in the paper include charge systems, tradable permits, and government subsidy reductions.
