The rehabilitation of a river delta using the ecosystem approach (pdf 1.4mb)

This publication tells the story of an ecosystem approach to the rehabilitation of the lower delta of the Senegal River in Mauritania.  Its aims to provide practitioners with a detailed case study for how the ecosystems approach might be applied in practice.

The ecosystems approach and its principles form a major aspect of the Convention on Biological Diversity and as an instrument for conservation.  However, practitioners faced with applying the approach often find it less than straight-forward.

This case study complements other publications produced by the World Conservation Union providing guidance to the ecosystems approach, which is critical to improving conservation and other sustainable development efforts.
