Greater Mekong subregion: Australia's strategy to promote integration & cooperation 2007-2011 (pdf 1.3mb)
This AusAID strategy provides overall direction for Australia's subregional engagement with the countries that share the Mekong River and comprise the Greater Mekong Subregion - Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Burma, Thailand and the Guangxi and Yunnan provinces of China.Australia's national interests in the Mekong subregion are strong and broad, encompassing economic, political, security and environmental concerns.
The objective of Australia's Greater Mekong Subregion Strategy is 'to enable susutainable broad-based economic growth levels for the subregion through greater connectivity and cooperation.
The strategy focuses on two pillars:
- Supporting subregional connectivity through infrastructure investments
- Enabling integration through promoting and facilitating subregional cooperation
