Beyond good intentions: measuring the social performance of microfinance institutions (pdf 35kb)
This focus note highlights the emerging emphasis on social performance in microfinance and reviews some of the assessment tools recently developed.
The study focusses on the importance for funders and financial institutions to seek more transparent ways to measure social performance in addition to measuring for financial performance.
It also concludeds that emphasis on social performance assessment will result in better actual social performance-in reaching larger numbers of far poorer people and improve services to help clients reduce their vulnerability and improve their economic conditions.
