Multi-donor support to civil society (pdf 567kb)

This literature review explores different models for civil society engagement and the extent to which this engagement can be 'scaled up'.

Civil society organizations (CSOs) are continually supported by multilateral and bilateral donor organisations in order to enhance local political accountability, yet there remains a lack of systematic analysis around different approaches to providing this support. In particular, the review looks at multi-donor models for supporting civil society and efforts to reach out to 'nontraditional' civil society in the context of the UK's Department for International Development (DFID) programming.
