Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Agricultural research & extension funding levels required to meet the Anti-Hunger programme objectives (495kb)

Many developed countries (and even some developing countries) are in the process of shifting the funding of extension services to the users and away from public resources.

The paper provides:

- Summary of economic impact evidence of past investments in agricultural research and extension
- An estimate of the additional investment needed across regions and income levels
- Discussion on how the international community could assist developing countries in achieving this increase in agricultural research and extension investment
- Looks at ways of organizing and financing agricultural research and extension at the national level
- A discussion of the priority areas for agricultural research and extension
