Alternatives to slash-and-burn programme

A resource site of information and publications about alternatives to slash and burn farming methods, with features on the Amazon, Congo Basin and Southeast Asia.

High population densities combined with a declining natural resource base make Southeast Asia a critical region of study for the ASB Programme. Southeast Asia has the highest rate of tropical deforestation rate in the world, and the conversion of forests by smallholders, large-scale operators and government-sponsored projects alike continue to threaten the region's remaining tropical forest area.

The site contains news, policy briefs and information on climate change, biodiversity, sustainability, poverty, policy and deforestation, featuring the Amazon, Congo Basin and Southeast Asia.
