The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Handling and processing of organic fruits & vegetables in developing countries

This report presents information about the post-harvest management, storage and transportation of organic fruit and vegetables, both in the fresh state and after processing.

Market demand for organic fruits and vegetables has increased steadily in recent years; and this ought to present an opportunity for exporters in developing countries who in many cases practise low-input agriculture. However, there are significant hurdles to overcome in order to benefit from this opportunity.
