Irrigation
Growing more rice with less water (pdf 50kb)
Rice is the main staple food in China and many other parts of the world. China, however, needs to increase production to feed its growing population. There is little scope to increase the area planted to irrigated rice as demand for water from other sectors is growing, resulting in water shortages. Yields of irrigated rice must rise by increasing production without additional water, relying on getting more 'crop per drop' through introducing new water saving techniques.
