Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

The rehabilitation of agriculture in tsunami affected areas (pdf 332kb)

Based on a regional workshop hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), this report provides an overview of the long-term, post-tsunami rehabilitation and reconstruction of the agricultural sector in India, Indonesia, the Maldives, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The report also provides an overview of related topics pertaining to recovery efforts, including lessons learnt and challenges encountered. Some of the main challenges identified in the report include:

- Identifying interventions for longer-term Rehabilitation and reconstruction of the agricultural sector
- Collecting information on past and ongoing rehabilitation efforts
- Identifying overall gaps for intervention
- Reviewing national strategies and exploring possibilities for strengthening them
- Coordinating the exchange of information.
