Women's reproductive health rights

Gaining ground: a tool for advancing reproductive rights law reform (pdf 1.1mb)

This paper provides an analysis of advances in law reform regarding reproductive health, to further stimulate ideas for reform and offer an assessment of what can be realistically achieved.  The paper seeks to provide advocates of law reform advancement with tools to advance reproductive rights at home.

Discussion is built around nine key themes, including:
- Safe pregnancy and childbirth
- Contraception
- Abortion
- Harmful practices
- Violence against women
- HIV/AIDS
- Population policies

Each theme includes a summary of the international human rights framework that supports progressive reform on the issue, the principal duties of governments arising from their obligations under human rights law, and examples of legal and policy developments from around the world.
