The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Reconciliation after violent conflict

An online handbook that examines specific democratisation challenges after violent conflict, presenting a range of tools to design and implement reconciliation processes. The handbook offers:

  • explanations of the basic concepts and general principles of reconciliation
  • analysis of the people involved at the core of a reconciliation process: the victims and the offenders
  • descriptions of the key reconciliation processes: healing, justice, truth-telling and reparation
  • an assessment, based on comparative international experience
  • an analysis of the role of the international community
  • a range of practical case studies from Cambodia, Guatemala, Northern Ireland, Rwanda, South Africa and Zimbabwe
