Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Women and political participation and good governance: 21st century challenges (pdf 497K)

A comprehensive publication examining the issues of gender, governance and the feminisation of poverty.

The document discusses the inequitable representation and participation of women in institutional structures, from governments and political parties to non government organisations and the private sector.

Case studies of initiatives that address these inequities include: 'Women in the Panchayti Raj: Grassroots Democracy in India'; 'The South African Women's Budget Initiative', 'Alliances for Gender and Politics: The Uganda Women's Caucus' and 'Crossing the Governance Private Threshold: the Experience of the Gender Violence Campaign in Latin America and the Caribbean'.
