Australian Development Gateway

The Australian Development Gateway (ADG) strives to support members of the development community in their efforts to reduce poverty and enhance sustainable development in the Asia Pacific region. The site has been created with participation from members of government, private, academia and non-government organisations. User feedback mechanisms have been incorporated to guide future directions of the site. The site is optimised for low bandwidth access to enable the widest participation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Public health-related capacity building

Community capacity building and health promotion in a globalised world (pdf 75kb)

This paper reviews the use of community capacity building (CCB) as a long established health promotion strategy.

The paper discusses:

- CCB as a concept and its key features
- Trends in CCB in the 1990s
- Evidence on the impact of CCB for health outcomes

Five case studies from developed and developing countries are also presented to explore the diversity and efficacy of CCB interventions.
