SARS
Globalisation and disease: the case of SARS (pdf 934kb)
This research paper, produced by researchers from the Australian National University, provides an assessment of the global economic impacts of the SARS disease. The paper attempts to look beyond the immediate impacts of SARS in affected countries and sectors (such as China and Hong Kong), and look at the broader, indirect economic impacts that occurred in other non-affected sectors, as well as other countries.
The findings of the paper suggest that there is a strong economic case for improving public health in China and other developing countries, as well as boosting investments for research into disease prevention.
